4 Fun Games To Play On Route To Your School Trip Destination
13 February 2017
So you’ve planned the perfect school trip. The only problem is that you’ve got a couple of hours to entertain a gaggle of excited primary school kids on the way to your destination. Fear not, we’ve pulled together a list of games you can play to distract you students from the excitement that lay ahead (at least for a little while).
I Spy
This one had to be in here somewhere. I Spy is a classic; everyone knows what it is and everyone knows how to play. No having to explain complicated rules, just dive right in with ‘I spy with my little eye, something beginning with…’. It’ll keep your class entertained for a surprisingly long time.
Road Trip Bingo
This one takes a little bit of prep, but it’s worth it. Create and print out bingo cards that include things you’re likely to see on the way to your destination. You could go simple with cars and trees or a little bit more fancy with landmarks you might see on the way. Once you have your bingo cards, the rest is just like any game of bingo. Every time a child sees an item on their card, they cross it out. The first one to cross out a full card shouts ‘bingo’ and wins the game.
20 Questions
This game works best with a smaller group of kids and is another nice, straightforward game. One player thinks of a person, a place, or an object. The rest of the players take it in turns to ask questions that can be answered with ‘yes’ or ‘no’. The aim of the game is to guess the person, place, or object that the first player is thinking of. Simple.
I Went To The Shop
This is a great game for practising memory skills. Start off the game by saying ‘I went to the shop and I bought… an apple’ (or whatever other item you fancy). Now the kids take it in turns to add to the shopping list. For example, the next player might say ‘I went to the shop and I bought… and apple and some dog food’. This keeps going until you really start to struggle remembering the list, then you can simply start again. Endless fun.
Whether you try one or all of these games, we’re sure they’ll keep your class entertained for the duration of your journey. Each of these games can also be adapted to fit the topic of your school trip.
