Zoos are an incredibly popular choice for school trips, and for good reason. A trip to a zoo can teach students about such a wide range of topics, from science and history to geography and even literature. But with so many zoos around the country, aside from location, how do you even begin to choose where to visit?

We’ve pulled together a list of our favourite zoos that are perfect for school trips.

Edinburgh Zoo, Edinburgh

Not only is Edinburgh Zoo perfect for exploring animals from all over the world, but it specialises in Scottish wildlife. From Primary Schools all the way up to Further Education, the zoo is equipped to inspire learners of all ages and abilities. Blackpool Zoo, Blackpool

Offering curriculum-linked learning sessions for students of all ages, Blackpool Zoo is up there as one of our favourites. With over 1,000 animals as well as a state of the art education academy, the zoo is perfect for learning about animals, from the kings of the jungle down to the tiniest creepy crawlies.

Chester Zoo, Chester

With over 15 thousand animals on site and an incredible range of curriculum-linked workshops, Chester Zoo is an amazing destination for your next trip. As well as visiting the exciting and exotic animals, the zoo helps to teach about watching out for and helping local wildlife. Whipsnade Zoo, Bedfordshire

Based in Bedfordshire, Whipsnade Zoo is part of the ZSL group (along with London Zoo). As well as being home to an incredible range of wildlife, from hippos to red pandas, the zoo gives students insight into what it’s like to work in a zoo or as a vet. Whipsnade Zoo offers unique learning sessions and interactive experiences for schools that have been designed around students of all ages.

Another zoo in the ZSL group, London Zoo offers an amazing animal experience that you wouldn’t expect in the Uk's busiest city. From Tiger Territory to the Land of the Lions, London Zoo is home to an array of wildlife. As with Whipsnade Zoo, London Zoo offers a range of interactive and unique learning opportunities for schools, tailoring each session to the age and abilities of its participants.
