Yorkshire Wildlife Park
Back in 2014, Yorkshire Wildlife Park became the home of England’s only polar bear and is now home to nearly 400 animals including lemurs, lions, tigers, leopards, wallabies, meerkats, and more.
The park, situated near Doncaster, is the perfect place to teach students about conservation and animal welfare. Educational visits can either be self-guided or with a dedicated guide (if booked in advance). The park’s site has a whole section on educational visits to help you plan your trip, so there’s no reason not to give it a go.
The Tropical Butterfly House
Based just out of Sheffield, in North Anston, sits the Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife, and Falconry Centre. The centre is number one on Tripadvisor for things to do in Sheffield and is home to butterflies, birds, meerkats, and mini beasts. Throughout the day at the centre, there are animal encounter sessions such as parrot displays, feed the farm animals, and even a dinosaur trail. Some of these sessions offer VIP experiences to allow your students to get up close and personal with the animals.
Cannon Hall Farm
Since opening to the public back in 1989, Cannon Hall Farm have built an attraction that is certainly worthy of a school trip. Their new £1.5 million farmyard opening in 2013, with seven new farm buildings, is designed to teach about the day to day workings of a modern farm. The farm is home to every farm animal you can think of, from sheep, cows and goats, to shetland ponies, llamas, and even reindeer.
The school tour package includes a guided tour, an indoor lunch area, milking demonstrations, animal feeding, and sheep and ferret racing. Cannon Hall Farm welcomes of 20,000 school children each year, so their guided tour is chock full of educational experiences designed around the current curriculum requirements.
