Galleries of Justice, Nottingham

The Galleries of Justice Museum in Nottingham is a great place to take your students for their next school trip. This independent museum has a rich history,

with courtrooms that date back to the 14 th century, and a gaol that goes back to around 1449.

Known for its horror and gore, the attraction is will be sure to keep students engaged, offering a great look into the history of crime and punishment in the country. Character actors bring the stories of the courthouse and gaol to life, leading students through the judicial process and the history of penal reform.

A harrowing gallows theatre also shows where 129 prisoners were executed, as late as the 1950’s – including William Joyce, George Chapman and Derek Bentley.

National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh

The National Museum of Scotland offers students a great place to learn about history and nature. With a building that’s over 150 years old, students will be able to visit exhibitions that cover everything from science to tech, to natural history and world culture.

Among some of the incredible collections, you’ll find sculptures by the artist Andy Goldsworthy, The Maiden, which is an early form of the guillotine, and the stuffed remains of the first cloned animal, Dolly the sheep.

London Transport Museum, London

Based in Covent Garden, the London Transport Museum explores the deep heritage of transport in the capital city.

The museum has dozens of audiovisual recordings of not just London, but the transport cities in other major cities such as Tokyo, Shanghai, New York, New Delhi and Paris.

Going back as far as 1800, the exhibits looks at the progression of transport from horse and carriage to the first underground steam engine before it was converted to electricity in 1901.
