6 Of The Best Places To Visit In England On A School Trip

Way beyond London and its other major cities, England is rich with wonderful destinations and regions that are just begging to be explored.

Organising a school trip to a metropolitan city may be a guaranteed way of ensuring a good time, thanks to their plethora of attractions and tourist activities, but taking the road less travelled can provide you and your class with new experiences they won’t be quick to forget.

Check out these six enchanting places in England and take it upon yourself to discover theabundance of beauty, heritage, and good times they have to offer.

The Lake District

Considered by many as Britain’s most scenic destination, the Lake District boasts an impressive mix of lakes, woodlands, fells, and valleys, each with their own outstanding views. It’s also the home of many literary and artistic greats like William Wordsworth who took much inspiration from the dramatic landscape. Be sure to go wrapped up, though, locals say it’s not uncommon to experience all four seasons in a single day.

Norfolk

The ideal setting for a pleasant drive or bike ride, Norfolk is loved by many for its flint-built villages, ruined castles, stately homes, medieval churches, and half-timbered wool-towns with brilliant museums. Being situated in East Anglia, you may get caught out by the cold of the northerly and westerly winds. However, this doesn’t seem to deter anyone; you'll still find the beaches packed with hikers and dog walkers.

Yorkshire

As God’s Own County itself, Yorkshire is unlike any other place you’ll find. Millions flock there every year to experience the county’s beautiful landscapes and leading food and drink offerings. You’d think this would cause some of its more well-known attractions to be overcrowded, but Yorkshire has so much to offer, spread out over grand cities and sweeping moors, that it will always maintain its inherently rural and friendly charm.

Cotswolds

The Cotswolds is an area of England that will leave you feeling like you’ve travelled to another era. The word “wolds” comes from its prevalence of rolling hills, which undulate over five counties: Worcestershire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, and Warwickshire. As the largest of the areas of outstanding natural beauty in England and Wales, the Cotswolds is also known for its lively festivals, diverse museums, and intriguing galleries.

Devon

If you’re looking to give your class a real taste of good, hearty food and rekindle their love of the great outdoors, you couldn’t do much better than taking a trip to Devon. Surrounded by a coastline of magnificent beaches, Devon is a rich larder of food, from lamb, venison, and pheasant, to cider, cheese, and ice cream, that’s sold by local artisan producers in the county’s vibrant farmers’ markets. There are not many better places in England to learn about and see where our food comes from than Devon.

Cornwall

With over 300 miles of cliffs and dunes on its coastline, each accessible by foot, Cornwall is a treasure trove of delights. You can take a picnic and explore its oak-forested creeks, rock pools, and medieval harbours, or attempt to spot its resident seals and basking sharks. And with its long artistic heritage, including world renowned painters, potters, and sculptures, you won’t run out of things to do and see further inland, too.
