DfE to update its Core Content and Early Career Frameworks
28 August 2023
The Department for Education has announced that it will make moderate changes to its Core Content Framework (CCF) and Early Career Framework (ECF) following the response to a recent call for evidence in March 2023.
During the call for evidence, more than 90 studies were submitted for consideration, which could either supplement or replace existing evidence.
Experts and key stakeholders also submitted other narrative evidence covering topics such as managing behaviour, mental wellbeing, special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and curriculum.
Key respondents included The Teachers’ Unions NASUWT and the National Education Union (NEU), as well as organisations such as Teach First, Special Needs Jungle and the Universities’ Council for the Education of Teachers (UCET).
The evidence was evaluated by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF), which also independently reviewed the current frameworks, to consider how it could supplement existing evidence.
The Foundation has provided the Department for Education with an overview of how the new studies submitted may be prioritised in updating the current evidence underpinning the frameworks.
The Department for Education is now liaising with the expert groups which are advising the review and working through the findings which will then be tested with stakeholders.
It said, “The call for evidence has proved a wholly worthwhile endeavour, capturing the knowledge and expertise of the sector in a way that we hope can inform the iteration of the frameworks”.
